AR Lacoste Zine

In the Fall of 2019 I studied abroad in Lacoste, France. I had just come back from a summer internship with XR Marin, as well as participating in the student volunteer program for the ACM Siggraph Conference in Los Angeles . Both of my summer experiences introduced me to AR and VR and I knew I wanted to further get involved with it.

In France, I wanted to find a way to fully capture a slice of my study abroad experience. I had been working a lot in a sketchbook and I had the idea to create a little booklet with augmented elements.

My concept was to develop a zine that could be constructed easily from one page of paper without tape or glue but that could also be used in union with a phone to view 3D elements. I was also really excited to be able to combine my AR and VFX experience with my painting and photography work.

I used Vuforia and Unity for the three AR parts of the Zine. I also created a 3D map with Unity and Terrain Party. Lastly the booklet was designed in Adobe InDesign. All drawings, paintings and photos were produced by me.

Parts of this project were very challenging, but I learned a lot about both AR and taking on a huge project independently. My zine went on to be accepted into the juried SCAD Day Exposition.
