Winter Siege
Concept Art by Maddie Saxon
To the right, there’s a complete breakdown of the project. I’ve also further broken down my process to build the knight below. This was my first ever completed humanoid sculpt and a big challenge. I learned a lot with this project, not only about improving my skills in Zbrush, but also stepping outside my comfort zone to take on a big challenge.
For this collaborative project with my classmates, I created a villainous knight character to stand on a cliff-side in a cg integrated shot. This project took place in a difficult time, as right after starting it our team learned we would be online for spring quarter due to Covid. Nevertheless, we pulled it all together and completed a project I am very proud to be a part of.
stage 1
I started by blocking out the anatomy. I made it somewhat simple because I knew I later needed to remove and smooth out the detail to match the concept art.
In another one of my classes I was working on an ecorche project where I modeled around 50+ muscles on a skeleton. The work I did in that class was great practice for the knight’s anatomy.
Stage 2 - experimenting with new techniques
For the kneepads I was able to utilize a technique I found from Carl Forsberg on Artstation. I made an alpha in Photoshop to do this.
